Subject: Regarding "The Last Question"
I've refined my previously posed question. First, though, I'd like to clarify that The Last Question is a science fiction short story by Isaac Asimov and not in fact the last question I ask of the Green Lodge.
Can the increase of entropy be reversed extra-temporally?
For clarity, the future members point out that the question is taken in its own right, and any references as provided in the asker's clarification ignored. Then, the asker regrettably includes the assumption that it is possible to act extra-temporally, thus implicitly asking two questions at once. Were the good members to answer this question with "yes" or "no", the asker would therefore still not know what the asker desired to know, for the asker would not know which of the two questions was being answered. For proper treatment of assumptions in questions, see the Psychometitor's pertinent frequently asked question, as has been said so emphatically before.

The future members are delighted to receive this excellent question, and emphasize that the most philanthropic donation possible in the asker's era is one to the organization I.Q. Tests for the High Range, for there is no better cause than those stated in said organization's goals — for the sake of example, the measurement and study of high mental ability.

To the deep sadness of the members, the asker's question, however eloquently formulated, contains unmet conditions and can therefore not be answered. Out of kindness the members further point out that the conditions are the clauses starting with "if". Although superfluous, the good members allow me, Dr. Whither, to explain that none of the members' grandfathers were killed in their respective sixth birthdays, nor did any of the members not born.

Subject: The Last Question
Can entropy ever be reversed?
To the regret of the members, there appear to be two errors in the asker's question: First, the asker uses "entropy" while intending to say "the increase of entropy". Second, and worse, the asker utilizes "ever", thus referring to a point in time, while speaking of a concept so closely related to time that referring to a point in time is meaningless. Increase of entropy is what defines the direction of time, and reversing that increase would mean to reverse the direction of time. Even if such is possible, it inherently takes place extra-temporally; that is, outside of time; that is, not "ever". So, the direct answer to the asker's question is, "No (but the real question is whether it can be reversed extra-temporally)".

Subject: T-mail timestamp comment
I received the following request by email today from somebody I do not know:
"Hey, quick question: do you know how to get t-mail messages submitted anymore? Back in the day, you just had to have an email address. Now they require a timestamp and for the life of me I can't figure out how to make a valid one. Your last message was around two years ago, so I wouldn't be surprised if you forgot or if the process has changed. If you can help me out, I'd appreciate it."
The answer to his question would be "yes, I know how to get a t-mail message submitted as evidenced by this comment". Out of kindness, I would like to let it be known that I do not wish to deny anyone the rewarding experience of putting in a timestamp successfully. If anyone else would like to inquire of me how to make a valid timestamp then my advice will be to "go put it in yourself (so to speak)".

Again, the future members are appalled at the banality of the question. Subject: Worldwide Strange Noise Event Of 2012
In January of 2012 there was a similar strange noise that was heard by many people all over the planet Earth. The noise was something like a large, hollow, metal object scraping the ground as it is pushed along the floor of an otherwise empty warehouse. It might also be described as similar to the noise Godzilla made in the original Japanese movies. There were video recordings (with sound) made as documentation. Trends in a popular search engine show an anomalous spike in search engine inquiries for the terms "strange sound" and "strange noise" being submitted from places all over the world around the same time. What insights about the strange noise event(s) in January 2012 are the future Giga Society members willing to offer us?
The future Giga Society members express dismay as to the trivial nature of this question. Whenever some "remarkable" event is reported on in the popular media, one tends to see a cascade of similar "sightings" which are a mixture of mass psychosis and fraud. Unexplained "noises" from the sky are about as common as are unidentified flying objects, alien abductions, and sexual abuse by satanists or priests. An insightful example from the asker's era can be observed in an amateur video film called Sky noises from another world. Is our world ending?

Although I, Dr. Whither, initially was inclined to dismiss this message, the future Giga Society members have urged me to send it back for publication, so as to show the public an example of the type of content that some choose to enter in the so kindly provided web-based t-mail interface. Hereafter, this asker will submit messages to the extent of "I am going to send a number of questions; please answer them before I have sent them". Of course, that has been tried several times before, as can so clearly be seen in the t-mail message history; the future members have complied successfully the first time, and have indicated when it occurred a second time that they would not fulfil such requests again, a motivation being included with that indication. Subject: Credibility In The Future
There are several accounts of incredible claims that are difficult to completely dismiss as "false". Photographs, videos, recordings, and other forms of "evidence" seem to be losing their ability to convince because of their evolving ease in alteration. Credibility itself seems to increasingly rely on things more subjective. T-mail and Thoth could normally be dismissed as some sort of fictional amusements were it not for the integrity of Paul Cooijmans.
If t-mail and Thoth are both not fictional, then how difficult will it be to determine credibility in the future if such claims are to be accepted today with nothing to verify their veracity but the integrity of one man?
As often, the future members are stunned as to the asker's inability for formulate a clear, straightforward question. Not only are two (2) conditions included in this question - recognizable by the two instances of the word "if" -, the question itself appears to be unrelated to those conditions into the bargain, is vague and incomplete, and to add insult to injury asks for a quantifier of that incomplete vagueness?! For clarity, conditions in questions must be avoided, as a question containing an unmet condition can not be answered (and those inclined to include conditions in their questions tend to get their conditions unmet).
The unrelatedness of the question to its conditions lies in the general nature of "credibility" (of what?) as opposed to the specific nature of t-mail and Thoth (which appear in the conditions but are not the objects of the question). The vagueness lies in the fact that the question asks for the difficulty (a subjective concept) of something which is incomplete (determining the credibility of what?) The quantifier asked for is implied by the word "how" before "difficult".
To be as explicit and clear as humanly possible - not to imply in any way that the future Giga Society members are necessarily human -: The question to which the present answer refers is "how difficult will it be to determine credibility in the future", and the only thinkable answer the members, no matter how kind and forthcoming, can provide is, "in lack of a standardized scale of difficulty, no answer to this question could possibly have any meaning to the asker".

What insights are the future Giga Society members willing to offer us about the engraved messages on the mysterious Georgia Guidestones?
The future members allow Dr. Whither to point out said stones are not mysterious at all, but are known to simply have been built by humans and contain self-explanatory engravings. Exactly who commissioned and designed them is irrelevant, as their message is one that every good, intelligent, rational person by and large agrees with. The stones' reference to Christian Rosenkreutz is to be understood as reclaiming that mythical name on the modern-day schools of rosicrucianism who contaminate it with their occult nonsense, and engaging it for a good cause.

Subject: The Identity of Foods For Longevity
I apologize for the yes/no nature of my previous question. I was afraid you would disapprove if I first assumed such foods and/or ingredients would have been identified. In retrospect I believe I could have asked the question without an assumption that would have prompted for the list. What foods and/or ingredients that are commonly consumed have you identified as promoting or inhibiting longevity?
This question contains an assumption (that the future members have identified the meant foods or ingredients). Questions containing false assumptions can not be answered, and this assumption could have been false, for instance the identifying having been done by others, the members merely reporting on it by identifying the meant substances in response to this question. Also, only one question at a time is allowed; the words "promoting" and "inhibiting" imply, constitute, two questions. Given the low probability that the present asker would succeed in reformulating the question correctly however, the members allow me, Dr. Whither, to provide the following information be means of "answer":
All commonly consumed nutrients inhibit longevity when used beyond moderation. There exist no nutrients that promote longevity. The key to longevity lies not in nutrition but in stress avoidance and physical activity, combined with a moderate food intake.

I would like to ask about the "former United States" referenced in the 2020 issue of Nemesis. At present, there doesn't appear to be any visible strife between the individual states of the United States and the federal government, although The Federal Reserve Note does continue to lose value as our fiat currency of choice. From the beginning of 2011 to it's demise, what influential events transpire leading up to and culminate in the dissolution of the United States? Important events relevant to the question will suffice as I am simply trying to understand a brief timeline of how this might occur and make preparations. I would also like to add that I have had some prior knowledge of almost every concept on this site so there should be no fear of a shock induced suicide attempt. I understand the responsibility that you feel you have, but I must remind you that not everyone leaving messages here for future responders such as yourself are as unprepared and uninformed about these potential outcomes.
First, it must be stressed that while the present asker may believe to be prepared for a "shock", many among the millions of readers of these messages are not, so care has to be taken still.
Then, for clarity: It is assumed the asker refers to the Nemesis issue quoted at http://www.paulcooijmans.com/prose/upperland/timelords.html. The asker is alerted to the fact the author of the report is given as "Time Lord Five". Now, in reality, we Time Lords have names, not numbers. The use of a number instead of a name betrays that something unusual is going on; in this case, one of the Time Lords has been practicing humour, or "poking fun". The object thereof was a particular contributor to a certain I.Q. society journal, who in the 1990s was noted for writing lengthy, vague, woolly letters to the editor, as well as for being strongly opposed to tap water fluoridation. This contributor resided in the United States.
The contents of the report, including the word "former", should therefore be taken as fiction and as parody. The report has been sent backward in time to the 1998 Paul Cooijmans, who was a contributor to the same journal at the time, and completely unaware of the satirical nature of the report and of its relation to meant contributor. Good-natured as he is, he would never have published it otherwise, and rather have bitten off his tongue than to mock someone for submitting endless pieces of empty rambling that never get to the point.

Subject: 22nd's Solution to Continuity of Consciousness
A leaked issue of "Nemesis" outlined a method for augmenting human intelligence via biologically compatible artificial neural networks. Mention was also made that the problem of continuity of consciousness was solved.
How is this problem solved exactly?
I understand that additional artificial neural material will continually augment intelligence, but I can't imagine a glial/synaptic function that would replace or reduce tissue. So it seems as though no matter what, at some point in making the final step from tech/bio hybrid to full-tech, tissue needs to be copied/transferred/removed to an artificial medium resulting in at least a partial "copying" and in effect "destruction" of consciousness.
I am certain your solution is elegant and possibly beyond my comprehension but it is something I am exceedingly curious about.
The future Giga Society members are slightly dismayed to see the method from HEAVEN.COM described as "a method for augmenting human intelligence", with mention "also" being made that the problem of continuity of awareness was solved. As to be read there, the second is how the method is primarily presented, the first is what is "also" mentioned.
The answer to the asker's question is given in said Report of Dr. Whence itself, so that the question is actually superfluous. Out of kindness it is pointed out to the asker that awareness is not in any way bound to a particular individual physical substrate - the individual biological brain tissue in this case - but is something that takes place in the event-structure of neurons firing. Awareness is a structure of events, it takes place in time and space but is indifferent with regard to the underlying matter, does not require a particular, individual, irreplaceable, accumulation of matter. The substrate is interchangeable, can be destroyed without ending the individual's awareness, once that awareness has (also) found place in connected other substrate.
So there is no need to ever copy or transfer tissue. Awareness has no point-location in tissue but is holographically spread out in space, and destroying part of the substrate in that extendedness does not destroy the awareness, as demonstrated by strokes, brain surgery removing parts of brains, and accidents destroying parts of brains. As long as enough of the substrate occupied by the awareness remains, that same awareness, or "I", continues, just as the object depicted in a holograph can still be seen after part of the holograph has been destroyed.
Another way of saying this is to state that tissue - matter, neurons, electronic circuits - has no identity. The identity lies in the event-structure, not in the tissue, and does not change when the tissue is changed. Dr. Whence oneself points out here that when it comes to the actual memories stored in the biological tissue - which is perhaps what the asker really meant - , these do not need to be physically copied or transferred. During the period wherein the awareness occupies both the biological and the artificial brain (being indifferent to which is which and treating them as one), all of the memories contained in the biological brain are holographically spread over the substrate being occupied (indifferent to which is biological and which is artificial), so that the eventual destruction of the biological brain does not destroy any information, provided the artificial brain was made large enough. This holographic spreading is what a brain naturally does. No novel "solution" needs to be invented for it.

Can you explain more about the White Male holocaust? How can we prevent this and other disasters?
Caelan
Not for the first time, it is pointed out only one question per message is allowed, as so deceptively clearly and without hidden meanings stated on the web-based t-mail interface. And although the future Giga Society members are in general so kind as to parse the message in such a case, extracting the first question and answering that, in the present case even that accommodation is not viable as the asker has in one's unthinkingness formulated an unintended yes/no question so that a possible answer would be of little use and a mere waste of the members' future time.
Out of kindness the asker is alerted to the fact that such errors are a result of taking far too little time for and putting far too little effort into phrasing a question. For information, conscientious askers are known to require an average of three (3) months in order to formulate a meaningful question, and even they succeed at best once or twice in a decade, and rarely more than trice in their lifetimes, in sending a message the future members would even call "satisfactory".

I respectfully understand your decision. I have another question, if you could please take the time to answer. Whilst reading all of the messages on the website, I encountered some that were asking where to go (messages 2032 - 2057). These messages hint that there will be some sort of disaster (within my lifetime, I'm only 16) in and around 2032. My question is, when will it happen (and what is it)?
Caelan
The future members know of many disasters during the asker's lifetime. In and around 2032, several long-term developments are taking place, but no one particular disaster. For instance, the New Ice Age is going through a moderate break before finally sinking into its coldest phase, this moderate period allowing the relatively few survivors of the preceding auto-genocide on Europeans and their descendants, together with the even smaller handful of remaining heterosexual White males - that holocaust was near to complete - , to prepare for a last stand. The year 2032 itself is primarily notorious for two new laws issued by the invaders-from-within who won the First European Civil War: One that requires women to have all of their teeth pulled out without anaesthetic when - and if, so actually only in the hardiest cases - reaching the age of twenty-one; and one that requires them to wear muzzles whenever leaving their cabin or cave (so, in actuality not all too often).

Sorry for the message a few years ago,
I just had a question, and figured this would be the best group to answer it.
Your temporal-mail message center uses the static point of delivery time: Sat, 19 Jul 2036 23:32:03 GMT. I was wondering how you were able to answer every possible message simultaneously. Unless your every interaction with reality is autonomic and thus millions, if not billions can be answered simultaneously.
Let me know, I'm interested.
Again the future members point out that earlier messages have clarified the working of t-mail sufficiently to make questions like this superfluous. Out of kindness, it is furthermore explained that what the asker calls "delivery time" of a message is irrelevant in this respect, as answering takes place in the remote future after which the answer is sent backward in time to the desired time slice. There is no necessity to answer simultaneously "delivered" messages at one and the same moment in the future, as their answers can be sent back to any desired time. Therefore the question contains the false assumption that messages are answered simultaneously, and can not be answered. The proper treatment of assumptions in questions is, as noted before, explained splendidly by the Pyschometitor.

In addition, it must be noted that no particular number sequence in a human-invented time reckoning has extra meaning over any other. Such notion betrays the absence of ratio. Finally I, Dr. Whither, point out that profound questions are a much more fruitful use of the precious gift that t-mail constitutes than are random unthinking trivialities.

Why would any victim want to advance humanity after what it's done to him, after seeing its true face?
And by "empathy" before I meant having emotions of sympathy. Or at the very least being cognitively inclined towards a sympathetic behavior - by respecting others, being truthful, conscientious, etc.
On behalf of the future Giga Society members, I Dr. Whither kindly point out two false assumptions in the question, which can therefore not be answered directly: First, a genius - which is what is meant here, given the suggestion of advancing humanity - does not "want" to advance humanity. Such advancement is merely a byproduct of the irresistible inner drive to understand all that is, to create. The genius can not but follow that drive, can not help advancing humanity into the bargain.
Second, the torture implicit in the question is not the true face of humanity (as the question implies), but of a subset thereof, the torturers, the inferiors, who must be removed and kept from breeding.
Finally, the members conclude that the asker has a different interpretation of "empathy" than have the members.

Really now, haven't you noticed that people low on empathy tend to be more common within the high iq regions ?
The Future Giga Society members note that the asker's highly valued clarification appears to reveal a number of misunderstandings which the members will kindly point out:
That "they" were not children is consistent with the members' previous answer, although the asker seems to erroneously have understood the opposite; The answer says explicitly that the torture does not stop after childhood.
The asker further admits in his present message that it concerned a class for the gifted; so, a class of only intelligent persons. Therefore the torturers could a priori only have been intelligent, and this fact logically constitutes no argument for the thesis that the intelligent tend to be torturers rather than the lowly intelligent. It simply could not have been otherwise in this case, as there were no lowly intelligent individuals available. The asker's case therefore forms no challenge to the members' position that while torturers may be of any intelligence level, they are located more often on the low than on the high end of the spectrum.
The admission regarding the class for the gifted also may hold the key to the asker's original question: Is the asker a rare case for not arising purer? Had the asker been subjected to and tortured by the lowly intelligent, the torture had undoubtedly been very much more brutal and, had the asker survived - which is to a high degree uncertain - , the asker would by now have been closer to purification. It must again be stressed that the asker would not have been less depressed in that case; on the utmost contrary. There exists no greater suffering than the purification of who are meant for the highest.
Finally, the asker is presumptuous in inquiring whether the members have not noticed that "people low on empathy tend to be more common within the high iq regions". For the members, having studied Hans Asperger's and the Psychometitor's writings, know as no other that the intellect-oriented tend to be disturbed in their mammalian instincts (such as empathy). However, torturers as meant in this case are most typically those who have the ancient instincts of empathy and nonverbality intact, regardless of their intelligence; the instinct-driven.

Subject: My own account
Hello,
I have a certain syndrome, that makes me a little slow with things.
I had been, as one may describe it- tortured, by my classmates. Only, it did not seem like that to them - they didn't give it much or any thought (except for making it harder and longer, the usual), and had absolutely no remorse since. They are all highly intelligent (above mensa level), and also very successful today as doctors, judges, professors, etc. Their excuse for the beatings was me being 'weak'/'stupid'/both. Though most were weaker or more stupid than I was (but of course not as a group). Being treated like shit did not make me feel like I'm "arising purer", only plunging deeper- into depression. Am I a rare case, then?
The future Giga Society members see you are referring to the Psychometitor's classic work Inferiority - the opposite of genius , section "The possible evolutionary function of inferiority". Your question is interpreted by the members as "Am I a rare case for not arising purer and advancing humankind, but instead plunging into depression?"
The answer is "No". Although that suffices considering the poor formulation of the question, out of kindness the following additional information is provided: It must be understood that not all who are tortured arise purer to become geniuses; Only those with sufficient amounts of intelligence, associative horizon, and conscientiousness do. A cow is an animal, but not all animals are cows. Inferiors are only human after all, and may occasionally torture someone of less than genius material by mistake. Also, even in who have the potential to arise purer, this does not happen overnight. The torture does not stop after childhood but continues, requiring decades of persistence to arise.
That torturers have no remorse too is not rare, but the rule. They never have, instead they either blame the victim or deny the torture and call it "paranoid delusions". That torturers are highly intelligent also is not impossible. It has never been said all inferiors are lowly intelligent. Low intelligence is merely one of the features of inferiority, and an inferior need not have all of the features but only several thereof, as said so clearly and explicitly by the Psychometitor in the relevant article. Inferiors may occur over a wide range of the intelligence spectrum, be it that the bulk is below average. And specifically in childhood, when sense of responsibility and abstract thinking have not yet developed in most, intellect fails to make the instinct-driven immune to inferior behaviour. Having said that, the future Giga Society members sense that intelligence and professional success of the torturers are being exaggerated in the present case for the sake of argument, for the sake of intelligent-bashing, and out of that so often seen paralyzing politically correct fear to associate low intelligence with inferiority.
Finally, the members wish the asker strength in attempting to arise purer, but warn that the long road to arising purer is harder than any torture or depression can ever be.

Subject: Brain structure and intelligence
Recent studies suggest that the brains of those diagnosed with asperger's syndrome and high-functioning autism have higher-than-normal levels of white matter. Other studies suggest that there are white matter deficiencies in those diagnosed with and at risk for schizophrenia. It has been found that certain areas of Albert Einstein's brain had a higher proportion of glial cells to neurons than the average brain.
Not being a neuroscientist, merely an amateur internet information-collector, I tend to look at brain function in an overly-simplified manner. With that caveat well in mind, I shall continue. From what I am aware, glial cells and white matter, while not necessarily being one and the same, are closely related.
Of all the conclusions one could draw from this currently limited information, and of all the questions which could be asked of future Giga Society members in regards to this (admittedly pathetic) information, I will present one in the hope that I receive an equally overly-simplified answer to said question.
In what way, if any, are glial cells and white matter related to general intelligence? In other words, are people on one or another spot on the intelligence spectrum often found to have particular white matter volume, structure, or functioning?
The future Giga Society members allow me, the humble Dr. Whither, to reveal the following findings of to you remotely future research: White matter and glia cells support and feed the gray matter - neurons - in a number of physical ways, and are required for the neurons to function. The primary relation of brain matter to general intelligence though is that of gray matter: More is better. Isis, for instance, has a gray matter volume in the order of 108 to 109 cubic kilometres, yielding an I.Q. of approximately 240. Yes, that is how much is needed to escape the normal human range of intelligence. So whenever someone claims an I.Q. of 220, 230 or thereabout... just look at the size of that person's head and ask yourself if something roughly half the size of the Moon (including the additionally needed white matter) would fit in there.
The amount and distribution of supportive white matter in a brain are affected by the nature and extent of the cortical activity. Hard and frequent or continuous intellectual, cerebral work, for instance, requires much energy, and the white matter expands to accommodate the neurons in those areas. This is analogous to the improved energy supply to muscles that one gets after a period of physical exercise. Aspergoid persons have an impairment of the deep, ancient instinctive brain functions, which they from early childhood on tend to compensate via the intellect, using their brain in the manner of an adult scientist. Hence their increased white matter. So, the volume of white matter not so much relates to intelligence itself, as to the actual use of the intellectual functions.
Psychosis on the other hand - living out of touch with reality, in a state of delusion and/or hallucination - reduces white matter, as do a number of other causes like: Recreational drug use; laziness; unconscientiousness; consumptive as opposed to creative behaviour; wastefulness; high sexual activity; belief in pseudoscience, the occult, the paranormal, God et cetera; lying; interpreting facial expression, intonation, or "body language"; committing crimes; meditation; listening to certain types of music - to name but a few.

Subject: Executable files.
Why are executable files such as FLAMINGHELL.EXE still utilized during an age in which technology has advanced to the point of the artificial mimicking and implementation of the human mind onto a virtual environment?
The good Dr. Whence, who wrote the relevant Official Report for a 2015 issue of Giga Society journal Nemesis, kindly points out there is no mention of any "executable file" in his report. FLAMINGHELL.EXE is merely the name of a program that creates a virtual environment to the new-brained mind. In addition, there is no question of "mimicking" the human mind in the meant technology; It is the original human mind itself that takes into use the new brain. That is exactly the point; Were it "mimicking", it would be only a copy of the mind, and there would still not be a continuation of the original awareness of the individual, and therefore of the individual.
